FAQs

We thought we’d add in a “Frequently Asked Questions” page as there is a recurring theme to what is being asked.

Can I join the choir at any time?
Absolutely! We regularly add in new music and new warm-up songs so, whilst you may need to catch up a little with the older repertoire, you’ll be in the same boat as everyone else for the new pieces!
If you are unsure about joining a choir, I wrote a blog article that might help! You can find it here … www.choirblog.co.uk

Where does the choir meet?
We meet every Thursday night during term time, 7pm-8:30pm, in St. John’s Church, Bury St Edmunds.

What does the choir sing?
We try to cater for as many musical tastes as possible. The repertoire is mainly made up of pop songs, songs from the shows, popular classical pieces, folk songs, jazz & swing music; both accompanied and unaccompanied.

I’ve not sung before and can’t read music, can I still join?
Definitely! There will always be people who have sung for many years or who can proficiently read music but this group is really open for everyone. It can be scary when you get handed a piece of paper with some weird blobs all over it but we will make sure that we go at a speed that is appropriate for everyone!

What is the age range of group?
This is a tricky question to answer as it really depends on who turns up! It will be an adult choir so is open to anyone over the age of 18.
Should you know anyone under 18 who wants to sing, we know plenty of suitable groups in and around Bury St Edmunds; do contact us for more details.

How much will it cost?
Having run choirs for over 8 years, we’ve seen the most success with a £5, “pay-as-you-sing” style of fee setup rather than lump sum, quarterly/termly/half-termly subs where you miss out if you end up going on holiday or miss rehearsals because of illness. The second option is needed if it is a smaller group but we’re hoping to really spread our wings and have a big group of singers 🙂
